Tandberg Data manufactures an array of LTO-5 HH models including internal, external and rackmount configurations, with a choice SAS or FC connectivity. Tandberg Data is the only manufacturer to offer a LTO-5 HH FC external tape drive. All Tandberg Data LTO-5 tape drives support LTFS (Linear Tape File System). LTFS simplifies archiving tasks and is fast becoming the standard recording format within the video and entertainment industry.

  • The driver provides specific functions as defined by Microsoft. Each function defined in the driver sets up the appropriate commands to be sent to the tape drive or library. This allows a backup application to simply call the functions defined in the driver instead of putting together all of the necessary device commands.

Drivers Symantec TapeDrive

I am using Windows Server 2003, backup exec 10d and a quantum DLT-S4 tape drive. All of a sudden backup exec is not communicating with tape drive. It seems that windows is recognizing drive OK because it shows up in Device Manager under tape drives. I also still see the drive in backup exec DEVICES as online. The scenario is that Symantec® or Backup Exec® might require the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) device driver for the Medium Changer and/or Tape Drive (s) to be uninstalled. Afterwards, install the Symantec® Device Drivers for Windows®. This is to possibly clear or resolve any of the following.

Symantec Drivers Windows 10

You can install Symantec tape device drivers by running tapeinst.exe, located in the Backup Exec installation directory. Updates for tapeinst.exe are available in the Device Driver Installer package.

Note:

You must run tapeinst.exe locally at the media server where you want to install tape device drivers. You cannot use tapeinst.exe to push-install tape device drivers to remote media servers.

To install Symantec tape device drivers by running tapeinst.exe

  1. From the Backup Exec installation directory, double-click the tapeinst.exe file.

    The default installation directory is C:Program FilesSymantecBackup Exec.

  2. On the Symantec Device Driver Installation Wizard, follow the on-screen prompts.
